The only person you are destined to become is the person you decide to be. ISPD uses a skill-based approach to foster Personal, social, emotional, and academic competence. Personal, Social and Emotional Development is recognised as one of the building blocks of success in life. It supports children's development by helping them to interact effectively and develop positive attitudes to themselves and others.
ISPD program promotes students’ personal and social development. It go on to develop a rationale for personal and social development in terms of promoting students morality, self-awareness, self-esteem, relationship with others, independence and social responsibility. Most importantly, they help you forge a better fortress for your mind, stay open to learning, and be more resilient to setbacks. Students learn how to build relationship, to give and take, to become responsible, to enjoy and share success and face setbacks. Children’s personal, social and emotional development is crucial for children to lead healthy and happy lives, and is fundamental to their cognitive development. Developing and demonstrating individual emotional assets such as resilience, self esteem and coping skills is heightened. The program teaches children how to recognize emotions in one and in other people, understand the causes and consequences of a wide range of emotions, label emotions using a sophisticated vocabulary, express emotions in socially appropriate ways, and regulate emotions effectively (the “ISPD†skills). ISPD helps students to learn these skills by integrating formal lessons and opportunities to practice using them into regular classroom instruction. The premise is that teaching and providing opportunities to develop the ISPD skills is necessary to build relationships, promote healthy living, prevent problematic behavior, and increase academic achievement . it is obvious that students' daily experiences are saturated with emotions such as frustration, loneliness, enjoyment, and interest (as are the experiences of their teachers, principals, and family members).
Behaviour can be an expression of feelings or emotions. To help children make sense of this, and have the best effect, approach them with empathy, supporting and guiding them to identify and deal with their emotions.
Underpinning their personal development are the important attachments that shape their social world. Strong, warm and supportive relationships with adults enable children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others’.
Intellectual, Social and Personal Development(ISPD) Program supports children to learn to get on with others and make friends, understand and talk about feelings, learn about 'right' and 'wrong', develop independence and ultimately feel good about themselves. By focusing on each of these areas of growth, we can ensure that their overall development is balanced and fulfilled.Personal, social and emotional development (PSED) is one of the three prime areas for learning and development. Social and emotional development means how children start to understand who they are, what they are feeling and what to expect when interacting with others. It is the development of being able to :
• Form and sustain positive relationships.
• Experience, manage and express emotions.
• Explore and engage with the environment.
Social & emotional development refers to the process where a child learns to understand, express, & manage their emotions in the early years. This includes a child’s potential to engage in emotions the right way to build future relationships appropriately. Managing both positive & negative feelings comes from developing empathy & a sense of both right and wrong. Social-emotional skills are crucial for connecting your child to you & the outside world. It’s believed that your little one starts to learn & acquire these skills from the beginning itself. This happens right after they are exposed to people around them after birth. And you, as parents, can escalate the process by nurturing your kids to gain socio-emotional awareness. These skills will also help your child perform better in school & workplace later in life. The following are the domains under which these skills are taught for untroubled growth:
